Top 10 Things to Do in Florida (Beyond Theme Parks)

Published on 5 December 2025 at 23:20

Florida is famous for its theme parks such as Universal and Disney, but there’s so much more to explore and stay. Here are ten fantastic things to do in Florida that don’t involve roller coasters or queues. Consider each option and look at the things to do and places to stay in each location;

1. Visit the Florida Keys: Drive down the Overseas Highway to Key Largo, Islamorada, or Key West. Stunning ocean views, coral reefs, and laid-back island life. Stunning views, food that is second to none and so many places to stay

2. Everglades National Park: Take an airboat tour with one of the local companies, go bird-watching, or kayak through mangroves to spot wildlife like alligators, herons, and turtles.

3. St. Augustine: The oldest city in the U.S and such a laid back lifestyle. Explore historic forts, cobblestone streets, and Spanish colonial architecture, before checking into one of the local hotels or villas.

4. Beaches of the Gulf Coast: Visit Clearwater Beach, Siesta Key, or Sanibel Island for soft white sand, seashell hunting, and calmer waters for having a swim, or something more exciting.

5. Miami & South Beach: Back down south, enjoy the art deco architecture, world-class nightlife, and vibrant neighborhoods like Little Havana and Wynwood and all that they bring in the way of enjoyment.

6. The Keys’ Coral Reefs: Back on the Keys, why not go snorkelling or scuba diving with one of the local dice companies or visit John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (Key Largo) — part of the only living coral reef in the continental U.S.

7. Kennedy Space Center: A must for space fans — tour the launch pads, meet an astronaut, and learn about NASA’s history, there is something for everyone. Want to see those giant cities on the water, why not drop by Port Canaveral after your visit to see all the cruise lines. Disney, Royal, MSC and more all dock close to Kennedy Space Center

8. Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary: In Southwest Florida, stroll on boardwalks through wetlands and spot native flora and fauna.

9. Tampa Bay & Clearwater Aquarium: Visit Busch Gardens if you want a mix (but not strictly a theme-park trip), or explore the Aquarium or the Tampa Museum of Art.

10. Cultural Hotspots: Visit the Wells’ Built Museum in Orlando to dive into African-American history. Also, check out the unique artwork and street murals of Miami or the local markets in the small Floridian towns. Your always guaranteed a friendly welcome.
